Your congratulatory Message: came too late, Orugbo tells Omo-Agege
By John Ugava
Former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Delta State, Chief Oghene-Aga Andrew Orugbo has reacted to the congratulatory message by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in the wake of the Supreme Court victory of the RT Hon Sheriff Francis Orowhedor Oborevwori which revalidated his mandate as the duly elected Governor of Delta State, stressing that the message from Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was coming rather too late as he ought to have done so long ago.
In a statement he personally signed, Chief Orugbo took exception to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s attitude to politics, which, he observed denied Delta State the opportunity to produce the Senate President last year.
The message which was titled: “”My dear Obarisii , Senator Ovie Omo-Agege,: YOUR CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE IS COMING RATHER TOO LATE.”, Chief Orugbo maintained that having lost the 2023 general election, Omo-Agege only wasted the time and resources of the state by pursuing a legal battle that had no basis.
“I have just read your beautiful speech addressed to all Deltans as you rightly lost your frivolous appeal to the Supreme Court against the mandate freely given to H.E Rt.Hon.Sheriff O. Oborevwori as the Executive Governor of Delta State.
“Most Deltans are angry with you because you had a good chance not only to return to the Senate but to become the Senate President but you were misled by your inordinate ambition to become the Governor of Delta State, thereby depriving Deltans, particularly the Urhobo Nation the exalted possible of the president of Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I want to remind you that in the run up to the 2019 general election I met you in your house in Abuja in respect of my House of Reps bid and you told me that those people who were saying that you were planning to contest the governorship position of Delta State were merely speculating. You boasted that you will not step down to play local/ state politics but rather consolidate your position in national politics. So what happened!. The same way you assured me that you were not supporting any aspirant for the House of Reps then but the rest is now history.
“Why did you petition against the victory of H.E Rt.Hon. Sheriff O.Oborevwori and appeal to the Court of Appeal and finally to the Supreme Court!. Was it in the belief that you won the election or you wanted to be the Governor of Delta State without the vote of Deltans.
“So much resources has been wasted because you refused, failed and neglected to concede defeat immediately after the election. It is for the Governor to accept your congratulations. You also need to apologise to Ibori, Ogboru and Emerhor for obvious reasons.”, the statement added.
